Learning Objectives:

Describe the pharmacology of buprenorphine and its potential utility in the management of chronic pain
Discuss the characteristics of buprenorphine formulations used to treat chronic pain
Review appropriate strategies to initiate buprenorphine for the treatment of chronic pain
Identify potential barriers to the use of buprenorphine for chronic pain, as well as strategies for shared decision-making when considering buprenorphine initiation
